Bio Refinery Developments (BRD) is a privately owned Australian company focused on the development of innovative microbiological and green chemistry solutions. Working closely with leading Australian university research groups, BRD combines applied biology with novel chemistry to deliver environmentally responsible technologies that perform in real-world conditions.
Rather than generic “green” products, our approach is grounded in problem-specific formulation, scientific validation, and practical deployment, ensuring solutions that are both effective and sustainable.
Our Development Journey
BRD was established in 2010 to explore the application of biotechnology and sustainable chemistry to industrial and environmental challenges. In its early years, BRD developed a suite of biodegradable lubricant formulations for a previous commercial customer. These formulations were extensively field-trialled and demonstrated strong performance under Australian operating conditions. These biolubricant formulations are not manufactured or supplied by BRD, but remain an example of the company’s formulation capability and applied R&D expertise. Since 2017, BRD’s primary focus has shifted to microbial-based bioremediation, resulting in the development of proprietary products designed for the rapid treatment of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil and water. These solutions are now available for supply and deployment across a range of industrial and environmental applications.
